We’ve chosen Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine for our next meeting on December 16th, 7pm in the CCA (main bar). Published by Penguin Citizen, which deals with the issue of everyday racism, has already won prizes in the U.S. as well as the Forward prize for poetry in the U.K. and it is shortlisted for the T S Eliot prize. Rankine describes the form of this book as ‘archival and curatorial’. It is a collage of prose, poetry, graphic art, photography and scraps of documentary film script. Born in Jamaica, Rankine now lives in America where she has won many awards and fellowships for her 5 collections of work.
