We’ve gone for two contrasting books for the May group: John Ashbery‘s new collection Quick Question and Andrew Grieg‘s Found at Sea. We’ll meet at 7.30pm in the upstairs bar of the CCA on Wednesday 29th May.
None of us are Ashbery aficionados so don’t be put off by the ‘difficult’ reputation of this American poet, we can get through it together! He has won nearly every major American award for poetry and has been called the gretaest American poet of the 20th century with his extensive linguistic play; lets see what we think.
Hear Ashbery discuss this book on Radio 4’s Front Row by downloading the podcast from 15th March.
Andrew Grieg’s latest book, a lyrical poetry sequence written about a sea journey taken in Scotland, should provide a great contrast. The book has a strong narrative and has already been adapted for the stage by David Grieg.
